That Will Make You
Healthy for Life
By Dr. Mark Hyman & Dr. Mark Liponis
Scribner 2003
Many offerings about health and nutrition seem to opt for the strategy of scaring the reader into better behavior by graphically describing in gory detail the bad things that happen to people who eat, drink or do the wrong things. This book is refreshing that for the most part, it focuses on the many benefits of changes in the average person’s diet. And the changes it recommends tend to be presented in uncomplicated, direct statements such as “avoid the white menace” (white bread, white sugar, white rice, etc.). Although they provide all the nutritional advice anyone is likely to need, they admit that no one is likely to follow it to the letter--and they don’t try to scare readers into it through intimidation.
Almost as helpful as the nutritional advice offered by the two medical doctors are the many internet sites listed in the book for further information on the subject.
